Our Class Diary

December 2010

We are now focusing on Irish religious festivals and especially Christmas in our country.
Miss Blackwell will be going to Turkey after Christmas and will be presenting our projects.
She will bring our costume project, our film and a powerpoint presentation about Christmas.

November 2010

We are working on a project about Irish traditional costumes.
We have brought in clothes from home that look like the traditional Irish clothes.
We are planning a film that will show these clothes.

September 2010

COMENIUS VISIT TO IRELAND

We held a large assembly for them. We introduced each country in their own language. We danced and played music for them. One of the Turkish teachers danced a traditional Turkish dance for us. 2nd & 3rd class and Junior & Senior Infants sang songs for them. Then we all got up and did the Siege of Ennis.

On Thursday our visitors came into our classrooms to teach us traditional games and dances from their countries.
2nd&3rd learned a new game and dance from the French teachers.

Next, the Finnish teachers learned to play hurling. Patricia McCarthy gave them a training session. They loved it so much they are bringing hurlies back to their school in Finland.

MAY 2010

We are learning about Italy.

Miss Moroney and Mrs Queally are travelling to Fasano in Italy to the Comenius Meetings.

They will present Bunratty Castle at the meeting. They will also talk about traditional Irish building methods.

We learned about school in Italy, and what the children like to do. We also learned about local customs and traditions in the Fasano area.

March 2010

We are planning a trip to our House in Ennistymon.
We will learn about the History of the building and of the streets around it.
We will learn how it is built and how it was used long ago.

January 2010

Miss Blackwell and Miss O Loughlin did not go to France. The weather was too bad. The planes did not fly.

We are sending pictures to our friends in France.

We like to see the children in France. We see the school, the teachers, the cafeteria, the hall and the photographer.

We will send them pictures of our garden, our green schools flag, our hall and our classroom.

January 2010

Miss Blackwell is going to France. Miss O Loughlin is going to France too.

It is very cold in Ireland. It is snowing and very cold.

We made a poster about the COURTHOUSE. Miss Blackwell will bring it to France.

December 2009

It is Christmas in Inagh.

We are making a movie to send to our friends in France.

We are drawing pictures of Christmas in Ireland.

We are singing a song "We wish you a Merry Christmas"

November 2009

Our building is the COURTHOUSE in Ennistymon.

It is an old building outside but very new inside.

It was build in 1790 and was the courthouse for a long time.

In 1990 it was made into an art gallery.

October 2009

This month we are learning about our locality in Geography.

We are learning about the mountains and rivers in our place.

Mount Callan is the mountain in Inagh.

The River Inagh flows through the village.

The River rises in Mount Callan, flows down into Inagh, then onto Ennistymon and flows into the sea at Lahinch.

There is a lot of flooding here at the moment. The river is very big.

September 2009

This month we are learning about the Stone Age in Ireland.

The houses were made out of dirt and wood and hay.

They made houses for the dead people. They are called tombs.

We are making tombs in our groups. We are using grass, stones and dirt.

The houses and tombs are still in the ground and we have alot of them in County Clare.
