Basic tasks through the course:
1. read the slides to prepare for the lecture
2. listen to the lecture and make notes of key points, concepts, helpful examples, questions
3. participate in the demos :)
4. do the reading connected with the lecture
5. bring your thoughts together by adding a reflective note to Prope
The aim of the course is for you to understand key concepts related to interaction and collaboration and to use them as tools in exploring your own experience of education and in studying education.
Example 1:
The first lecture on Facework introduced a number of new concepts - what were they? Can you think of a time when you have tried to 'save face' or 'lost face', what about when you have tried to help someone else to 'save face'? Thinking about the start of your studies at university, what facework have you been involved in? Have you observed others involved in Facework? N.b. we started this reflection in the demo when you were asked to sketch your public and private face.
Example 2:
Attending the SDG4 seminar was a new opportunity to interact with the international community at JYU. This was a new setting and a new community to enter into. What did you notice about the community, and what did you notice about yourself? Was it easy to participate or easier to sit back and watch? What about the different talks or workshops you listened to - what new insights did you gain? What kind of interactions or collaborations did you observe? N.b. you were asked to make notes after the SDG4 seminar - so you have hopefully started this already, but now after other lectures you should be able to reflect a bit further.
Example 3:
The lectures on interaction in (social) media and dialogue again introduced new concepts - what were they? Try to identify 5 useful concepts from both lectures. Once you have identified the concepts, carefully read the associated texts - can you find the same concepts or similar ideas? You could try to do a mindmap of these two areas - and then see what connections you can find. Remember the different themes from the course should build on one another. N.b. this is hopefully useful if you haven't done any notes on these areas yet, this isn't a problem, you have the time.
Example 4:
The lecture on ethics and diversity brought in another way of looking at interaction and collaboration. How was dialogue included and what did intersectionality refer to? The lecturer emphasized that people can make mistakes even when trying to do the right thing, how does this connect with interaction and collaboration? N.b. this was the lecture on 24.11 - you are not expected to have done this yet but you can start it now ;)
