Sunday - travelling day

Our trip started from Joutsa at 11.00 am on sunday. We took a bus to Helsinki-Vantaa. Six students and three teachers were going to Rhodos to participate Erasmus project "Defending Europe - teaching Democracy". All of us were excited. Flight to Rodos went smoothly and bus driver was waiting for us at the airport. We went to Rhodes city and the host families were waiting for us at the hotel that teachers stayed. We had some evening snack and went to sleep.

Monday - Welcome to Rhodos

On monday morning we had a meeting at school. There was a short welcome speech and we saw a presentation of Rhodos. We also met principal Mrs Vogiatzi Marietta and president of student council. After that we walked to the Acropolis of Rhodes and had a short tour organized by greek students. Then we had games to get to know each other. In the end of the afternoon we went 9D interactive cinema and saw historical film of Rhodes "Helio´s throne". In the evening On we had a nice welcome
party at the event hall. There was presentation of traditional greek songs and dansing.

Tuesday - University and treasure hunt

On tuesday morning we had a meeting point outside the entrance of university of Rhodes. Dr Syropoulos gave us a speech about democracy and participation in ancient Greece. Then we went to school and we were divided to five mixed groups. Groups participated in Scavenger hunt at the old town. The winner group got prizes at school. Rest of the day was freetime.

Wednesday - Symi Island

On wednesday we had a field trip at the island of Symi. We went there by ferry and the traveltime was almost two hours. First, we watched 8th May celebrations parade and then we had some freetime. On the other side of island, there was a monastery of Panormitis. We went to see it and after that the trip back to Rhodes started. It was a long day, so we didn't had planned activities for the evening.

Thursday - City hall, Lindos and Kalithea Springs

On thursday morning we visited the Rhodes city hall and we had a tour there. We met major and vice major of Rhodes. Katja was interviewed at the radio with five other teachers from partnering countries. After that we had a daytrip at Lindos. We had a tour at the acropolis of Lindos and then we went to eat at Mimakos restaurant. We visited Kalithea Springs. It was a very nice place and we had some freetime there. At the evening we were with out host families.

Friday - Rhodes Area Tour and goodbuy party

On friday we had a tour in the old town. Then a field trip to Filerimos hill and butterflies valley started. We had a nice walk in the valley and the view from the hill was awesome. In the evening we had to say goodbuys to our new friends. We had a nice dinner and party at the hotel.

Saturday - Back home

Our hometrip started on saturday. We were at the airport in time but we almost missed our plane because the baggage claim was not working properly. But after all that we managed to board on plane. One bag had went to wrong baggage claim in Helsinki-Vantaa. We thought that it was missing but luckily we found it. We had an amazing experience and got many stories to tell to our friends and families!
