1. Choose a topic that interests you, is close to your heart, or yo know a lot about (on this course 6 My Language Profile ex. 10)
2. Think about enticing contents
3. Jot down whatever comes into your mind concerning the topic before you start writing
4. Pick up the most brilliant, the most versatile ideas
5. Plan the beginning: bear in mind that different types of compositions require different kinds of opening phrases/lines, e.g an informal letter VS an official letter, a blog post, an argumentative essay, a speech etc
6. Plan the structure (see above)
7. Avoid rephrasing the same argument over and over again
8. Divide your text into AT LEAST 3 paragraphs
9. Pay particular attention to your topic sentences = the first sentence of your paragraph & remember the order: topic sentence - explanation - an example or two - the analysis
10. After finishing, take a pause, and reread your compostion after a while. Pay particular attention to articles, irregular verbs & tenses
11. Remember the MARK COUNT at the end!
12. You are not allowed to exceed the given 1300 marks; if you do -9 points will be taken
13. Reach the required minimum of 700 marks by ANY MEANS!! Lots of points will be lost if you fail to do that
14. Remember to be polite and avoid colloquialisms & spoken language
15. Vary your sentence structures, use a suitable idiom or two (but make sure you use them in the correct context), remember reported speech, indirect questions, possibly shortened sentences etc.
