Dear readers of my blog, you’ll never believe what an awful trip I 1. had (oli) last Saturday on my moped! I 2. had filled / 'd filled (olin täyttänyt) up the petrol and 3. had checked (olin tarkastanut) everything thoroughly. I 4. thought (ajattelin) I would be a prince of a boyfriend and give Harriet a lift to Ronnie's house. However, it 5. was (oli) a good job that she 6. turned down / rejected / said no to / declined (hylkäsi) my offer. You see, just as I 7. was going (olin menossa) past the bus depot in Bexhill, my bike 8. stopped (pysähtyi) and then nothing - not even a splutter or a cough! I 9. had to stop (täytyi pysähtyä) at the side of the road.

After I 10. had been trying / 'd been trying (olin yrittänyt) to make my bike start for fifteen minutes, I finally 11. decided (päätin) to call my Dad. Luckily, he 12. happened (sattui olemaan) to be at home. He 13. arrived (saapui) twenty minutes later with his toolkit. Of course he 14. was wearing (oli yllään) awful old overalls. Mum 15. had threatened / 'd threatened (oli uhannut) to burn them in the backyard if he ever 16. tried (yrittäisi) to get out of the house in them again. My bike 17.was standing (seisoi) in the road outside a house. Immediately he 18. moved (siirsi) it under a streetlight to see a bit better what the problem was. "Why 19. had I not thought / hadn't I thought (en ollut ajatellut) of that?" I 20. wondered (ihmettelin)

Dad then 21. took (otti) off a wire right on top of the engine. Next he 22. cleaned (puhdisti) it inside with a tool. Then he 23. put (laittoi) the cover back on and 'Wrooom'. What a humiliating experience! I 24. had been standing / 'd been standing (olin seisoskellut) there like a lemon while Dad, the hero, 25. had fixed / had repaired / had mended (oli korjannut) the bike in a minute. My only consolation remains that Harriet 26. had decided (oli päättänyt) not to come with us. And Dad still 27. looked (näytti) like an idiot in his overalls – not cool at all!
