Järvikylä School in a Nutshell

The School is situated in the town of Nivala, about 160 kilometres south of Oulu. School education has begun in Järvikylä as early as 1900. The new School building was built 2023.

Järvikylä school is an Elementary School with six teachers, one assistant, one Special Education teacher and about 96 pupils from grades one to six (the ages of 7-12).

Most of the subjects start at 1st grade, but English starts at the 2nd grade. We offer Special education for those who need it.

Technology Education plays an important role at our school. We are taking part in Technology Education - NOW! -project and we teach technology to every grade. (See pictures in the link "valokuvia"). The modern technology is used at our school and one of our goals on the school curriculum is to teach with the help of it. The newest thing at our school is 3d-planning and we have 3d-printer.

Also music programme is a very important part of teaching in Järvikylä School. We are used to sing a lot at this school.

Media Education and Drama are essential elements of our school curriculum. We want to encourage students to critical media literacy and to strengthen our students self-expression.

We are taking part in Comenius-project GAMES WITHOUT FRONTIERS - ANOTHER WAY FOR LEARNING. Our partners are from France, Germany, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark and England. The project will last 2013-2015. Our previous Comenius-project 2009-2011 was ART ON THE MOVE. Our partners were European Schools from Spain, Bulgaria and England. Now 2017-2019 we have Erasmus+-project C.L.I.L. - Creativity, Learning, Ispiration and Language. Our European partners are from Czech, Spain, Latvia and Poland. We had Erasmus-project FUTURE WORKSKILLS BY CLIL AND ROOBOTIC 2023-2025.

We have also cooperation with Japanese Akatsuki Elementary School and Dvora Omer School from Tel Aviv. We work by skype.

We had an art project with Hungarian, Japanese and Czech primary school. In connection with this we organized art axhibitions on a variety of themes (running in every partner school)

School and its surroundings are ideal for Physical Education and learning about nature. School itself is situated next to a forest and the Lake of Pidisjärvi. We have a playground and even an ice rink in the wintertime.

Our aim is to support the growth of pupils into becoming responsible members of society. We encourage pupils to be independent but still respective to other people. The foundation of learning is built on students´ experiences, skills and knowledge, which we want to develop continuously. The main mission of our school is to provide students with the future skills.

Our slogan is: The rolling stone doesn´t gather any moss...
