Barking up the wrong tree - The War of FLowers
It's a beautiful evening. Mr Tulip
? in his garden. He often
? late with his roses. He
? them every evening ever since they
? to bloom. The previous owner
? the rose bushes before Mr Tulip
? the house. Brownie, his dog, usually
? around the house when Mr Tulip
? care of the flowers, but tonight he
? Brownie for a while. Maybe he
? something interesting in the backyard.
Suddenly Mr Tulip
? steps behind him. It's Miss Daffodil. She
? alone, next door to MrTulip. They
?, but Mr Tulip
really
? his neighbour very well. She
? so shy. Miss Daffodil
? something important to tell him; her hands
?.
Mr T: "Good evening! You
? yourself, Miss Daffodil, have you?"
Miss D: "No, it's nothing like that, Mr Tulip. I'm afraid something
? in my garden. Something terrible."
Mr T: "Please, tell me. I
? how to help you if you
? me."
Miss D: "Yesterday when I
? home, I noticed that somebody or something
? a big hole in the middle of my garden under my plum tree. It
? like a bomb
? there. I know it
? your dog."
Mr T: "But surely, Miss Daffodil, my Brownie..."
Miss D: "Please, let me go on. Tonight I
? the whole evening at my church choir practice. When I
? the front gate just a couple of minutes ago, your dog
? one of its bones in another hole. I
? my eyes at first, but then I
? very angry, Mr Tulip. I
? clearly see the black spots on its back. I must say that you
? a bad job in training that dog of yours!"
Mr T: "Black spots? Calm down, Miss Daffodil, please!
? that you are barking up the wrong tree..."
Miss D: "I beg your pardon,Mr Tulip. I know very well what tree I
? about. It's my favourite plum tree. My father
? it for me as a memory of him. Grandfather
? it from some orchard long ago."
Mr T: "I'm sorry about your tree, but my Brownie
? any holes in your garden. You see, he is brown - he
? any black spots. Oh, there he comes now -
??"
Miss D: "Oh, I'm so sorry. What a mistake I
?! I
? your dog was brown. Good boy! Whose is that black and white monster then?"
Mr T: "I think it belongs to the Hyacinths, who live down the road. How about a cup of tea to calm your nerves, Miss Daffodil? It is more comfortable in my living room. Please, come with me."
Miss D: "Oh, how lovely! I guess I
? have a cup. You
? so nice - a real gentleman, Mr Tulip!"
