Jääli Primary School


The elementary school of Jääli is located about 15 km from Oulu, the biggest city in northen Finland. The school is located close to Jääli lake. The lake and surrounding forests provide excellent possibilities for outdoor activities during the entire school year.

The school was built in two parts: Laivakankaan koulu for grades 5-9 was built in 2007. The new part  was buit in 2019. The school was named Jäälin koulu . 

The school provides general education for classes 1-9 and special education for children with special needs for classes 1-9. We also have classes ment for temporary or more permanent special education and teachers providing special education for variety groups of children with special needs.

The head teacher of the school is Mr. Pasi Timonen. The deputy head teachers are Ms. Tuula Okkonen and Ms Heli Honkalampi. During the school year 2020-2021 there are 52 teachers and about 20 schooling assistants working in our school. In 2020-2021 we have 750 students. In addition we have personnel working in administration, catering, cleaning and maintenance.

Our school has – in addition to the classrooms – a spaceous gym hall (that also serves the citizens of Jääli after school hours as a sports hall), a library, a youth center, two IT classrooms and a healtcare section. We also have permises for crafts and music.

The school of Jääli provides a healthy and safe surrounging for the children to learn and grow. Our goal is to make sure that every student's individual needs are met as they grow and learn.
