7. Kestävä elämäntapa (ENA7)

Kurssilla syvennetään taitoa tulkita ja tuottaa englantia erilaisissa kirjallisissa vuorovaikutustilanteissa ja erilaisille yleisöille. Kurssilla analysoidaan tai tuotetaan eri tekstilajien tekstejä, kuten fiktiivisiä tai ei-fiktiivisiä, kertovia, kuvaavia, pohtivia, ohjaavia tai kantaa ottavia tekstejä. Kurssilla jatketaan oppimäärän pakollisten kurssien teemojen käsittelyä ekologisen, taloudellisen sekä sosiaalisesti ja kulttuurisesti kestävän elämäntavan näkökulmasta ottaen huomioon opiskelijoiden tarpeet tai kiinnostuksen kohteet.

Write a composition of 700–1,300 characters (about 150 words) on one of the topics below. Follow the guidance. (99 p.)

1. A letter to the editor – Fight for a cooler future
Write a letter to your local paper about climate change and the precautions we as individuals can take to affect the future.

2. A society is measured by how it treats its animals.
Discuss.

3. Ecological gifts
What could you give to your friends and family that would be ecological, biodegradable, non-polluting and charming, all at the same time?

4. Apologies
Governments and world leaders have had to apologise for their countries’ wrong-doings of the past on several occasions. Who deserves an apology? What should be said?

5. The Three Rs
What would you like to teach the next generation about the world we live in?
Anything goes as long as it begins with an R.

6. No animal testing!
You are strongly opposed to using animals in any form of research. Write an email to a company that uses animals to test their products on, explaining your point of you.

7. We need more national parks in Finland! / No more national parks in Finland!
Write a speech where you argue for or against having more national parks in Finland. Your audience is your local city council members who have invited a young person to give a talk on the topic.

8. Forest clearance
‘Forests are cut down for a reason, you know. We need the timber and space for new homes. It’s called progress. So, let’s stop complaining every time a few trees are cut down.’
