Relatiivipronominit (ENA4)
Relatiivipronominien tiivis teoria:
Korrelaatti = sana / pätkä johon relatiivipronomini viittaa
1) Ihmiset: who / that:
My students who / that work very hard get good results.
omistus whose:
Those students whose grades are improving will pass the course.
objektimuoto (jos kohteena tai preposition jälkeen) whom:
Those students to whom I give extra assignments deserve a reward.
2) Asiat & esineet: that/which:
These are the copies that/which we will be using the next lesson.
Jos pilkku edessä (= irrallinen relatiivilause), vain which käy:
The copies, which contain too many assignments, are sometimes confusing.
Omistus whose / of which:
The assignment whose font was too small was left undone. / The assignment the font of which was too small was left undone.
3) What: Ei korrelaattia, käytä vain jos voit sijoittaa se mikä / sen minkä / siitä minkä / sitä mitä....
What I just told you is definitely a secret.
4) Korrelaattina koko edeltävä lause: pilkku + which:
The students were eager to learn, which was a pleasant surprise.
5) Paikka, aika & syy: where / preposition (in/at/on/under) + which; when / preposition (at/on/in) + which; why / for which:
That is the box where / in which I hid the candy.
It was last Tuesday when /on which we started the course.
That was the reason why / for which I quit it.
6) AINA that: all, only, little, much, few; superlatiivi; järjestysluku; indefiniitti:
That was the only rule that I knew.
That is the most precious memory that she has.
This is the second attempt that I try to pass this course.
Anything that could fix this would do.
7) OF-rakenne: ihmiset: one of whom, some of whom, all of whom, none of whom, both of whom, neither of whom:
The students, some of whom knew the rules already, got to work straight away.
Asiat & esineet: one of which, some of which, all of which, none of which, both of which, neither of which:
The child took out 3 candy bars one of which had already been eaten.
8) relatiivipronominin poisjättäminen: Jos relatiivipronomini ei ole lauseen tekijänä eli subjektina, voit jättää sen pois:
The computer (which/that) I took with me was not mine.
The computer which was broken had to be prepared.
