Pre-DP Physics (2 op)
In the course, the student gets an idea of the experimental nature of physics and becomes acquainted with quantitative modelling. A key content is how new knowledge is constructed by making observations and experiments in a way that is characteristic of physics. The course develops cooperation skills and creates a foundation for multidisciplinary and creative competence.
Objectives
The aim of the course is for the student
- gets acquainted with physics as a systematic, experimental science
- gets acquainted with data acquisition methods used in physics
- can design and implement simple scientific experiments
- gain experiences that arouse and deepen interest in physics and its study.
- becomes acquainted with energy as a key concept in physics
- prepare the student for IB physics
Key contents
- quantities and units as well as SI system
- measurements and data collecting, presenting data graphically and assessing reliability of the data
- graphs and linear model
- design and implementation of a simple experimental study
The main contents of the course can be viewed, for example, in the following contexts: experiments with motion, measurements of the density and the free fall acceleration.
Course evaluation
Numerical evaluation on a scale of 4 to 10.
The course implements both formative and summative assessments, emphasizing the main goals and contents of the course. Formative assessment is mainly to encourage a student in their studies towards the achievement of goals. Summative assessment consists of, for example, grades obtained from the tests.
