You work alone on a laptop (Office 365). Choose an inventor or a scientist (living or dead). Tell about their life (family, childhood, education) and most important invention(s) or finding(s). Then choose one of their inventions and write about it in detail. What is it? How does it work? Why is it important? How is it used nowadays? What kind of an effect has it had on its field of study (historically)? 

Write your work in Word. The font size is 12 (Times New Roman or a similar text font). You should write at least 200 words. Write (at least) 3–4 paragraphs (leave a blank line between paragraphs). You may also use subheadings if you like. Include at least one picture. 

You will have 4 lessons to plan and write your first draft. After that, you will receive feedback from the teacher. 

DEADLINE draft 1, minimum of 150 words; Thursday 12 February. 

Finally, you will have 2 more lessons to rewrite your essay. See how you could improve your text. Think about this carefully. The teacher’s comments give you only some guidance. Believe it or not, the second draft will make a difference! 

DEADLINE draft 2, finished essay, at least 200 words; Thursday 19 February. 

This essay will count significantly as regards your final grade from hitech English. Pay special attention to content, structure and language. 

Remember that using a copied (or AI generated) text will immediately lead to failing. Also, make note of all the sources you use and write them at the end of your essay. 

The work will be written in class, but you are free to brainstorm and sketch at home!
