Villager expectations

Villager expectations

In order to take the fullest possible advantage of this one-week or credit Virtual Village experience, I commit to the following code of conduct:

  • I will use Finnish as much as possible both in and out of class.
      • Part of the value of an immersion experience comes from the variety of opportunities to speak, read, listen and write in the Target Language.
      • Making an effort to practice what you’re learning by using Finnish and making mistakes is a natural and positive way to learn!
    • I will show respect for my counselors, classmates, and all other program participants.
      • Salolampi is a community where everyone is treated with respect and consideration.
      • Insulting, offensive, debilitating, abusive, or threatening language and behaviors are not acceptable.
      • Using positive words to encourage your fellow villagers and express gratitude to your leaders models courageous global citizenship!
  • I will log-in on time for all required meetings, and I will communicate any potential conflicts to Salolampi staff as soon as possible.
      • While some sessions may be recorded, we are not able to reschedule live sessions that are missed.
  • CREDIT: If you miss up to 18 synchronous meeting hours for valid reasons (health issues, etc.), your instructor may allow you to make them up. If you miss more than that, or do not complete your offline assignments during the session, you will not be recommended to receive credit.
    •  I will complete the asynchronous activities provided during the week.
      • These are the additional activities provided and encouraged by your staff.
    • The work I submit will be my own. I will not use online translators (ex. Google Translate), nor will I copy work from other students or from outside sources. Dictionaries are okay!
  • I will maintain my web camera video during synchronous sessions.
    • Classes and activities are interactive and we will need to communicate visually as well as through audio.
  • I will direct questions to a support counselor during live sessions, or send email to salolampi.villager@gmail.com
