Canterbury Tales

Canterbury Tales

Day 13

My course here in the University of Kent is almost over and I'm ready to go home. I miss my family, home, garden, Finnish language and coffee I'm used to.

Here you can see the room I've spent a fortnight.
Here are some pictures to show you how large the campus area really is.

And here is the sight from the campus hill.

Day 12

Wednesday 27th July

English like to talk about the weather.
So do we foreigners but even more eagerly we talk about English food.
I'll tell first about the best part of the English Cuisine - the Breakfast, which here in the University of Kent is amazing.

You can choose whether you take traditional English breakfast or perhaps a more healthy one with cerials and fruit. And of course you can always eat both.
Here is the menu:
Warm dishes
bacon, scambled eggs, fish, mushrooms, sausages, vegesausages, beans within tomatoe sauce and croissants
Cold dishes
six different kind of cerials, jogurth, all kind of fruits, marmelade, toast
tea, coffee, juice, milk.

I also like very much fruitsconse with cuttled cream and jam. Afternoon Tea is almost the best English"invention" but don't mention anything about coffee. So I still think that the food they serve here is still too greasy, overcooked and tasteless.
Not my cup of tea I'm afraid.

Day 11

Tuesday 26th July.

I'm adjusting to local time so I'm not any more an early bird but a night owl.
So you can guess that it is difficult to get up early enough to be on time in my lessions.

Anyway today I attended only for the first lessons and skipped the afternoon ones. (Shame on me!!!)
Because we don't have any cathedrals in Finland and I just love the special sound you hear there,
I went to listen to a childern choir singing there.
Afterwards I wandered through that huge church feeling so small that I ended up eating delicious English scons with cream and jam.

Rest of the day I spent buying some homecoming gifts to my family.

Day 10

Monday 25th July

New week has begun. I'm so tired from last week and busy weekend that today I rest.
After all it is my holiday.

Day8

Saturday 23th July

Weekend. No lessons I can do what ever I want to...
and I'm heading to London.
London is hot and packed with tourists
and I'll be one fo them!

My week has been so full of activity and studying
I desided to start my visit in a peacful place,
V&A museum's courtyard.
Here is a beautiful cafeteria and lovely garden.
On a sunny day Londoners may sunbathe here and
kids can swim in a fountain.

And here you can see the reason why I want to came to the Victoria and Albert Museum when ever I visit London. Dresses, Fashion, Clothes all with capital letters. Here are some examples what people has worn during the centuries.

And here are knitted swimmingsuits
from the 1930's.

In the afternoon I went to the National Gallery.

Because the museums close their doors pretty early, that is 5.30 pm.
I had to spent rest of the day doing some shopping.
