Pre-IB Physics

About Pre-IB Physics

These are the pre diploma year physics pages that give you necessary information about physics during the pre IB year.

The Group 4 subjects in the Diploma Programme are biology, chemistry and physics. You must study at least one Group 4 subject in the IB. You need to study physics, if you are planning an academic career for example in engineering or medicine. Typical componion subjects to physics are Higher Level Mathematics and Chemistry.

Physics is a demanding subject. To study physics you need good skills in mathematics (Higher Level mathematics recommended), and be ready to work hard on a daily basis.

Course "Fy 1.7: Physics as a Natural Science" gives you an overview of physics as a natural science, and teaches you some important skills you need later in your science studies. The course gives you a feeling of what it is like to study physics in the IB.

If you decide to study physics as an IB subject you should also study the courses "Fysiikka 2: Lämpö" and "Fysiikka 3: Aallot" during the academic year 2015-2016. Unfortunately, the courses are conducted through Finnish only. If you cannot study through Finnish, come to see me to discuss your situation.
