How to approach IB life

-Ask questions and remain curious. Realize that along with greater knowledge often comes more questions.

-Be informed. Pay attention to what is going on in your community, country, and the world at large.

-Be an active learner during and outside of lessons.

-Strive to solve problems and think about appropriate ways to solve them.

-Contact your homeroom teacher, the coordinator, your counselor, and teacher when needed. Additionally, contact the special needs teacher, the psychologist, the school nurse and the school welfare officer when needed. Realize that good communication flows in many directions.

-Get to know students in other grades. Ask for advice from other students, including those in other classes. Share advice with other students.

-Get to know students from the Finnish national program. Actively participate in school activities.

-Be fair and expect fairness from others.

-Approach your studies with honesty and integrity.

-Be prepared to disagree with others and engage in conversations outside of an echo chamber. Realize that others may not share the same ideas as you, and that others may approach concepts differently than you.

-Be willing to help others when they need it, whether they be in the same class, the same grade, the same school or the same community. Act locally and think globally.

-Be punctual: show up on time to lessons, return assignments on time

-Balance is an important attribute. Ensure that you get enough rest and sleep, eat well and exercise in addition to your school work.

-Be brave. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and learn from them.

-Set realistic academic goals for yourself.

-Approach your studies with bravery and a positive attitude.

-Incorporate past learning experiences into present decision making.

-Try to foster a community where all students can depend on others when needed.
