Alaranta Elementary School (Alarannan koulu) is a small and agile comprehensive school for grades one through six, ages 7 to 12. We also have a partly integrated small group for Special Education Needs students. Our staff consists of teachers, support assistants, a varying number of trainees, and the headmaster. Alaranta is a hamlet located a few kilometers down river from the main village of Ii. 

Alaranta Elementary School has recently (10/2020) moved back to Alaranta. We have a new, beautiful school. Our woodframed school has been planned and built to meet The Nordic Swan Ecolabel standards.

Alaranta school, along with other schools in Ii, works with high expectations and principles of sustainable development. Our plan of sustainable development includes different themes that our students process and present to each other during the school year. We also participate in 50/50 program that is designed to reduce the usage of resourses, such as water and electricity. When the students save money by using resourses wisely, they get back half of the money they saved and they can use it for their own well-being.
