Photosynthesis (yhteyttäminen) is the process by which plants make their own food.

"Photo" is the Greek word for 'light' and "synthesis" is word for 'putting together'. So, it is using light to put things together.

Plants can make their food anywhere as long as they have three things. The three things are carbon dioxide, water and light. Photosynthesis turns carbon dioxide into sugars using sunlight.

Photosynthesis is very important for life on Earth. Animals get energy by eating plants.
