1.1.) Read pages 34 - 36 and assess the importance of the following to the beginning of the Great Purge:
a) Controversies in economic and social policy 
b) Elimination of the 'Old Guard' Bolsheviks 
c) Ideological controversies 
d) Consolidation of the Soviet state 
e) Purges within the 'new generation' of the Party
f) Stalin's personality 

1.2.) Discuss about the perspectives of yours within the group. Introduce the reasons for the beginning of the Great Purge from the point of view based on your perspectives.

2) Compare the purges before Stalin's rise to power and during his rule.

3) Pages 36 - 38 > Study reasons, targets and results of the Great Terror (1937-38).

4) Create three groups > Analyze reasons for the 'Great Purge' and the 'Great Terror' by using the theories on pages 38 - 39.
