The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood in Saint Petersburg

The church was built on the site where Tsar Alexander II was fatally wounded by the assassins in March 1881. Few hours later the Tsar died at the Winter Palace for his bad injuries. The church was built during the reigns of his successors, Alexander III and Nicholas II, between 1883 and 1907. The construction was funded by the imperial family. (Photo: J.A.)
