Nasser's and Castro's foreign policies
Compare and contrast the impact of foreign policy on the consolidation and maintenance of power of two authoritarian states, each taken from a different region.

Domestic policies
1) Castro: Watch the BBC documentary from 33 minutes until the end and make notes on these issues:
- domestic policies > social, economic and agrarian reforms (in textbook in pages 93-96)
- use of force/ treatment of opposition (in textbook in pages 87-89, 97-99)
- ideology, propaganda, cult of personality
+ foreign policy/ impact of the Cold War
The 'Special Period (in Time of Peace)' (1989-ca. 2000) was entered as a response to the impact of the collapse of the USSR (in textbook in pages 99-105).
2) Nasser: three groups
A. Agrarian policy (in textbook Pages 29-32): How successful were Nasser's agrarian reforms and what was their impact on his consolidation of power?
B. Economic policy and industralization (pages 33-35): How successful was Nasser's industrialization policy and to what extent could it be characterized as socialist?
C. Treatment of opposition (in textbook pages 24-25, 36-39): How significant was this for Nasser's consolidation of power?
