Qatar-Finland Educational Partnership

EduCluster Finland, the University of Jyväskylä’s subsidiary specialised in education export, and the Supreme Education Council of Qatar have signed a five-year trade agreement on 9 June 2014. The purpose of the education cooperation is to establish a Qatar–Finland International School in Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The school will be open for all children and its operating model will be similar to the University of Jyväskylä Teacher Training School.

The purpose of the project is to combine the Finnish school model and its best practices with the Qatari school system. The project will be realised by a consortium that is coordinated by EduCluster Finland and that also includes Sanoma and Finnish Consulting Group (FCG).

“The Qatar National Development Strategy recognizes the importance of providing more educational opportunities within the private sector for both Qatari and expatriate families and, as part of this objective, seeks to attract outstanding schools to establish branch campuses in the State of Qatar. A small but growing number of schools have already been established as part of the Outstanding Schools Programme and the Qatar-Finnish International School joins this elite group. The Supreme Education Council acknowledges the international reputation for excellence that the Finnish education system has acquired and believes that the opening of the new school will support Qatar’s efforts to further enhance the quality of its own education system and provide increased levels of variety, choice and breadth of educational experience for all families and their children. I wish them every success in this exciting enterprise”.
Ms. Fauzia Al Khater, Director of the Education Institute, the Supreme Education Council of the State of Qatar. June 9th 2014.
