EPA Partnership Programme

The EPA Programme 2010 -2015 (Phase I)

EduCluster Finland Ltd. has formed an Expert Reflection Consortium to support development of the Enhancing Cycle 1 Pedagogy in the New ADEC Flagship Schools Programme (EPA). This concept builds on a combination of the core pillars of the Finnish primary (cycle 1) curriculum considered specific to teaching and learning through the new curriculum in Abu Dhabi.

The EPA Programme Phase I will be completed by the end of the academic year in August 2015.

EPA -programme / Finland - Abu Dhabi Partnership in Brief

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi has set renewing its role in the global market as its long-term strategic goal for 2030. This calls for a significant renewal of the structures of industry and services. This vision brings forth the need for knowledge of innovation and technology, which in detail calls for the creative use of skills in language, mathematics and information technology. The education system, school network, public-private cooperation, and international collaboration support the continuing renewal and development of education in the country.

The EPA programme sets out to develop a class teacher model by which to nurture child-focused learning; to create learner-centred environments; to employ integrated technologies for teaching and learning; to foster school, home and community stakeholder relationships; to maximise access to learning for children with differing abilities; and to embed language-supportive techniques in subject learning taught through English in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The EPA is creating a pedagogical fusion of Abu Dhabi and Finnish experience, leading to the creation of world-class flagship schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The process requires designing and testing the introduction of a classroom teaching model within the new ADEC curriculum. It serves to develop show-case examples of the new ADEC schools over 2010- 2015, establishing new pedagogical knowledge which closely fits the new ADEC curriculum and which enables Abu Dhabi teachers to develop teaching and learning through a class teacher model. The EPA will ensure early consolidation of experience and expertise leading to the potential for both cascade and sustainability.

The 2010-2015 EPA programme focuses on running school-level operations in the two flagship schools. Finnish and Emirati educators work jointly to facilitate the development of the schools through the Abu Dhabi education authorities. Another core area of the programme is an embedded professional development for educators in the schools.
