FRAASIVERBIT

Fraasiverbi on sanonnanomainen. Niinpä verbiin lisätty prepositio tai adverbi muuttaa usein sen merkityksen, eikä sitä voi päätellä perusverbin pohjalta. Lisäksi fraasiverbillä voi olla useita eri merkityksiä.

Tärkeintä on lukiessa tunnistaa, ettei sana sanasta kääntäminen toimi ja yrittää päätellä merkitys. Yleisimpiä fraasiverbejä voit käyttää myös puheessa. Usein fraasiverbiä vastaa jokin muodollisempi ja kirjallisempi verbi ("postpone" = "put off").
