Harju School

Harju School is a primary school located next to the town hall in the center of Lahti. Harju was designed by a famous Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen and it was completed in 1923. It is also a valuable listed building and protected by National Board of Antiquities.

Harju School consists of grades 1-6. The number of pupils is 260. There are preparatory classes for immigrant children in our school. There are many international pupils from different countries studying at Harju School.

Our School supplies English, German and Russian as first foreign language starting on the 3rd grade. All the first graders start studying English during their first school year. We love studying languages and cultures.

In Harju School we have strong values: courage, friendliness, responsibility and equality. Through these values we aiming towards our vision: Different people together, enjoying learning! Our mission is to provide children a good and smooth everyday life. We work systematically in a way children will learn the skills they will need in their lives now and in the future emphasizing social skills, communication skills, thinking skills and learning to learn, daily life skills, multiliteracy, ICT competence, entrepreneurship, participation and building a sustainable future and growing towards global citizenship.
