Session 1 Course Introduction

Comparative education (CE) has become more and more important due to globalization in all fields including education. International connections have increased tremendously, students’ mobility is totally different than ten years ago, and governments are searching new educational solutions worldwide.

In this session, professor Tjeldvoll give us a wide and thorough presentation on what CE (comparative education) really is. He explains the roots, different traditions, and categories of CE. We learn about educational morphology, i.e. a global description and classification of education, the relations and interactions between the different aspects or factors in education. We also learn about the fundamental conditions of educational change and how they relate to more ultimate philosophical laws.

Session 1 consists of seven lectures, PowerPoint slides related to them, readings, individual and group assignments.
