Lecture 4 looks into the process of institutionalization. We learn how stiff and inflexible culture is born in the organizations. The lecture points out the way organizations operate, produce services, and gradually alter themselves to resemble the external society's (rational) perceptions of the organizations work.

At the end of the lecture we study isomorphism, which is the dynamics causing organizations in the same industry resemble each other. We also learn how organizations develop decision making ritual instead of rational. As a result, organizations can even become "institutionalized theatre”.

Before any lecture either open or save to your computer the assigned PowerPoint presentations.

Assignment before the lecture: none

Open or save the PowerPoint slides related to this lectureS4_L4_2.pdf

Listen to the lecture, and afterwards do the assignment given below.

&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;Cannot display this embedded content because your browser does not support iframes.&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;

Write your learning experiences into your personal reflective report. The reflective reports for all lectures will be submitted in one file after lecture 5.

Assignment after the lecture: Read article by House & Wong: Western Management Theory In Hong Kong: Frames in the Preparation of Principles.
