<span>Jos kaikki maailman ihmiset kuluttaisivat kuten suomalaiset, tarvitsisimme yli kolmen maapallon verran luonnonvaroja. <br/>
<br/>
Vuosina 2022 ja 2023 Suomen ylikulutuspäivä on </span><b>31.3</b><span><span>.<br/>
<br/>
Talouskasvun, massatuotannon, massakulutuksen ja globaalin väestönkasvun kääntöpuoli on uusiutumattomien luonnonvarojen liiallinen käyttö, ilmastonmuutos ja ympäristön etujen huomiotta jättäminen. (lisää kappaleessa 3.)<br/>

<p>Ylikulutuspäivä tarkoittaa sitä, että laskennallisesti meidän kulutuksemme ylittää tuona päivänä maapallon kyvyn tuottaa uusiutuvia luonnonvaroja.</p>
<p>Ekovelkapäivänä (<em>overshoot day)</em><span> </span>ylittyy myös kyky käsitellä fossiilisten polttoaineiden (kuten kivihiilen) käytön aiheuttamia kasvihuonekaasupäästöjä.</p>
<p>Maakohtaista ylikulutuspäivää vietetään aina edellisen vuoden YK:n tilastotietojen mukaan, eli esimerkiksi Suomen vuoden 2023 ylikulutuspäivä perustuu vuoden 2022 tilastoihin.</p>
