Vimpeli Upper Secondary School is currently involved in international exchange with Tokyo-based Jiyu Gakuen school. Vimpeli sent two students (alongside with Alajärvi Upper Secondary School) to Tokyo for two weeks in the spring of 2017, and four Japanese students arrived on a two-week visit in August 2017. The exchange programme with Alajärvi is a part of a bigger programme called Bridge to Japan, aimed to help Finnish and Japanese schools get in touch with each other.
