ENA6: Studying, work and economy

Course 6 is all about your future! We’ll think about what to study and where. We’ll talk about how to apply for a job, and which qualities might be desirable in the job market of the future. We’ll have a look at the world of money and finance; how it works and how you can manage it.

Book: Insights 6, Otava (e-book)

+ additional material from the teacher

Chapters: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9 + glossaries on school, work and economy

Grammar: adjectives and adverbs, reported speech, shortened clauses, verbs/ nouns/adjectives and prepositions/adverbs

Listenings: 1-2 old matriculations tests + video listening(s)

Writing: a CV (instructions Learning to learn 1. Compiling a CV). Deadline: Thursday 16^th May

A composition at home (Learning to learn 3 and 4). Deadline: Monday 6^th May

Another composition on the final day.

A matriculation exam written part (composition excluded) on Pedanet

Oral exercises: A job fair where we practise job interviews, and smaller tasks all along the course.

Wordtests: ch 1 Mon 15^th April, ch 2 Tue 23^rd April, ch 7 Mon 13^th May (points are added directly to the course test)

Tests: Mid-term exam on Thursday 2^nd May of adjectives, adverbs, indirect speech, and vocabularies of ch 4 & glossary "Education".
Final exam in two parts on Monday 27^th May and Tuesday 28^th May.

Evaluation: All areas of language competence are included. This course emphasises reading comprehension skills, and skills required in further studies and work. Oral skills and activity in class contribute approx. 30 % to the final grade.
