<content type="html">Today we discussed proverbs that have to do with learning and working. (See the answer key below).&lt;br/&gt;&#10;We also did exercise 6 on page 121 and exercise 8 on page 122.&lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;Next week we'll start Chapter 12.&lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;b&gt;Homework: p. 126 exercise 1: Warm-up&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;You can find the vocabulary on page 134.&lt;br/&gt;&#10;Also take a look at thephrases on page 129 (Phrases for negotiating).&lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;b&gt;Wisdom in proverbs (handout) KEY&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&#10; &lt;b&gt;Possible interpretations:&lt;/b&gt; &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;1. If you actively participate in the learning process, you learn better. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;2. You can memorise details but if you don’t understand them, you don’t really know anything. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;3. You cannot always be careful and polite if you want to achieve something. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;4. You should not work too much. Having said that, work is necessary to bring balance to life. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;5. If you want to achieve something, you must work for it. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;6. If you pay for a service, you have the authority to tell the service provider exactly how you want it to be done. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;7. The work itself can give you as much joy and satisfaction as the results of it. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;8. If you spend your life waiting for success, you will have an empty stomach. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;9. Genius requires hard work and only rarely pure inspiration and brilliant ideas. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;10. If you have ambitions in life, you will never be satisfied with the ordinary. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;11. The best person to catch a thief is someone who knows how thieves work. &lt;br/&gt;&#10;&lt;br/&gt;&#10;12.
