Kokemuksia tet-harjoittelusta / Work practice program

We were at work practice at different workplaces in September. Workplaces include grocery stores, cafés, restaurants, preschools and other places. Working hours were about six hours a day. Tasks were e.g. cleaning, stuff shelving, making burgers, taking care of children, buying Coca-Cola, testing user interfaces and arranging stuff. Everyone was quite happy with their workplaces. The only bad things about working were that some tasks were physically demanding and not very interesting.

Olimme työharjoittelussa eri työpaikoissa syyskuussa. Työpaikat olivat mm. kauppoja, kahviloita, ravintoloita, esikouluja ja muita paikkoja. Työaika oli kuusi tuntia päivässä. Työtehtäviin kuului siivousta, tavaroiden hyllytystä, hampurilaisten valmistusta, lasten huolehtimista, Coca-Colan ostamista, käyttöliittymien testaamista ja tavaroiden järjestelemistä. Kaikki olivat melko tyytyväisiä työpaikkoihinsa. Ainoat huonot puolet olivat, että työ oli fyysisesti raskasta ja ei kovin mielenkiintoista.

Hitsauskilpailu Savon ammatti- ja aikuisopistolla

Helmikuisena torstaiaamupäivänä koulustamme osallistui neljä 9. luokan oppilasta kaupunkimme ammattioppilaitoksessa järjestettyyn hitsauskilpailuun. Kaikkiaan siellä oli 25 kilpailijaa Kuopiosta ja lähiseutujen kouluista. Alussa oli informaatitilaisuus, jossa kerrottiin päivän ohjelma. Vuorollaan osa oppilaista oli hitsaamassa, osa tutustumassa kone- ja metallialan koulutukseen, osa tutustui robotiikkaan. Kilpailutehtävänä oli hitsata puolikas lieriö metalliseen alustaa. Kuten kuvasta näkyy, tuloksena oli monenlaista jälkeä:)
Ruokailun jälkeen teknologiateollisuuden koordinaattori kertoi alan töistä ja työmahdollisuuksista, jotka näyttivät lupaavilta. Joten jos ala kiinnostaa, kannattaa sitä lähteä opiskelemaan. Lopuksi julistettiin voittaja ja kaksi seuraavaksi parasta. Kakkos- ja kolmossija tulivat meidän koulumme oppilaille, mistä oltiin tosi iloisia.

Teekkareita koulullamme

Aalto-yliopiston tekniikan osaston opiskelijoita kävi koulussamme kertomassa opinnoistaan ja siitä kuinka he olivat päätyneet tätä alaa opiskelemaan. Vierailu liittyi yliopiston Tempaus-projektiin, jossa yliopiston innokkaat vapaaehtoiset vierailivat kotiseutunsa kouluissa sekä ala- että yläluokilla. Tempauksella haluttiin saada koululaiset innostumaan oppimisesta ja nostaa peruskoulutuksen tärkeys valtakunnalliseen keskusteluun.
Ainakin meidän ysiluokkalaisemme kuuntelivat teekkareiden tarinoita omilta kouluajoiltaan ja siitä kuinka tulivat nykyiset opintonsa valinneeksi, keskittyneesti.

9A was visiting Me & MyCity!
Me &MyCity for ninth-graders is a learning concept dealing with business and global economy. It consists of lessons in socail studies and career counselling. The concept culminates to a game in the Me & MyCity learning environment.This game simulates the operations of global case companies and a bank. The companies are involved in the lessons, the game and the learning environment. The students step into the shoes of the cmpanies' executives and engage in the tasks of various areas of responsibility. The team compete against each other and the winning team is the one that achieves the best operating profit and the best reputation. Winning requires a good strategy and close interaction.

Yrityskylävierailullaan oppilaat pääsivät harjoittelemaan tiimissä esiintymis-, neuvottelu- ja myyntitaitojaan asiakkaiden ja pankin kanssa. Tarvittiin myös it-taitoja, taloudellista ajattelua tarjouslaskennan taustalle ja kirjanpidon seuraamiseksi. Vaati jonkin aikaa ennen kuin pelin henki aukeni tiimeille. Tunnelma oli parhaimmillaan tiivis ja keskittynyt, välillä oli nähtävissä streessaantumista ja tuskastumista, etenkin jos näytti siltä, ettei ryhmä puhaltanut yhteen hiileen. Väliaikaraportteja tiimin tuloksesta seurattiin innostuksella. Yrityskylävierailu oli aivan uniikki oppimiskokemus.

8th graders worked for three days in local companies. They got to learn what it's going to be like, when they start working themselves, and a part of the students even found new opportunities for summer jobs and such.

The students made a pro/con-list of what they thought of the job they got to do. Here they are:

Tulevia projekteja / What will be...

Our job search -team has planned a lot of events for the programme for next year. Here is a peek:

1. Practical training
The student will spend two weeks training an industry of their choice. They will report what they've learned at school upon their return. They'll make posters of their training and we'll make an exhibition of them, so that everyone can explore different job opportunities.

2. Business village (Me and my city)
A vrtual game designed to teach students about economy, society, work and entrepreneurship. Students will have to negotiate with the virtual bank, and they will familiarize themselves with production, vendors, leadership and customer relationships.

3. Students will make different kinds of employment applications during next year. They will be planned and written in cooperation with the student counsellor, Finnish teacher and social studies teacher.

4. More professionals from different sectors will be guiding student with different likes and interest (e. g. military and law inforcment personnel, authors, media personnel).

Koulullamme kävi näyttelijä / An actor visited our school

Koulullamme kävi tiistaina 12.4. näyttelijä Kuopion kaupunginteatterista. Tukioppilaat esittivät hänelle kysymyksiä näyttelijän työstä ja hänen urastaan. Koko auditorio oli täynnä koulumme oppilaita. Meillä oli hauskaa, kun hän joutui esittämään erilaisia improvisaatitehtäviä.

An actor from the Kuopio city theater visited our school to tell the students about what it's like to be an actor. The student got a chance to ask him questions about what he does and what his career has been like. The whole auditorium was full of interested students. They had lots of fun, when he had to improvise different kinds of scenes.

Projektin eteneminen / Progress of the project

Meidän luokkamme kuuluu työn- ja stipendienhakuryhmään. Olemme suunnitelleet logoja aiheeseen liittyen ja olleet Skype-yhteydessä muiden projektiin osallistuneiden koulujen kanssa (se ei mennyt kovin hyvin). Työn- ja stipendienhaku on vaikea aihe 8. -luokkalaisille, koska asia ei ole oppilaille ajankohtainen vielä moneen vuoteen, kesätöitä lukuun ottamatta.

Our class belongs to the student job search and career advisory group. We have designed logos on the subject and we have been on a Skype connection with the other schools that are part of the project (that didn't go too well). Student job search and career advisory is a difficult subject for 8th-graders, since it isn't topical in many years, excluding summer jobs.
