Tällaisten sovellusten ideana on, että lapset voivat tallentaa tarinaa reaaliajassa liikuttaessaan hahmoja erilaisten taustojen edessä ja puhuessaan ääneen dialogia ja/tai kertojaääntä. STORIES-päiväkodeissa oli käytössä kaksi eri versiota Puppet Pals -sovelluksesta (iOS): <b>Puppet Pals HD</b> ja <b>Puppet Pals 2</b>. Hankkeessa käytettiin myös <b>Toontastic</b>-sovellusta (iOS, Android), mutta sillä tehdyistä tarinoista ei ole esimerkkejä tällä sivulla (ei tarinan julkaisulupaa vanhemmilta). Muista samalla idealla toimivia sovelluksia (iOS:lle) ovat mm. <b>Sock Puppets</b> sekä <b>Superhero Comic Maker</b>  ja <b>Princess Fairytale Maker</b>.<br/> <br/> Hankkeessa oli lisäksi käytössä erillinen nimenomaan digitaaliseen tarinankerrontaan tarkoitettu laite, <b><a href="https://www.i-theatre.org/en/" rel="nofollow ugc noopener">i-Theatre</a></b>, jolla tehtyjä tarinaesimerkkejä löytyy
