Contemporary Art in the light of Sustainable Development

The Jyväskylä Art Museum offers with the University of Jyväskylä an experimential and functional museum experience with sustainable development as the common thread.

The main exhibition is a biographical exhibition of the printmaker Annu Vertanen, a series of three exhibitions.
STEAM exhibition for children and young people.
The workshop “Maapallo pelissä” (Earth in the game).

The program aimed at young people strengthens the role of art in building awareness of sustainable development and offers hope for the possibility of influencing a better future in a reality filled with threatening images.

During a visit to the museum, you get to know contemporary art, how it has been tried to be defined. During the visit, works of art are examined not only as aesthetic objects, through the thoughts and feelings they evoke, but also how they respond to the goals of sustainable development, or whether they respond in any way. For example, are the materials used ecological, how could the subject or implementation of the work promote equality or does making or viewing art produce health and well-being.

During the visit, the students receive various emojis and adjectives that they can use to mark the emotions evoked by the works. Marked works are opened by discussing different experiences and the meanings of the work.

In STEAM workshop, we ideate visually or by building three-dimensional solutions to the goals of sustainable development. How can artificial intelligence art bring tips to thinking? The generated ideas are photographed or scanned as part of the exhibition for rotating projection in the art education space in exhibition space. In this way, young people can participate in the exhibition themselves.
