1. Etsi itsellesi kesätyöpaikka netistä (Englanti, Skotlanti, Wales, Pohjois-Irlanti, Irlanti). Käytä oikeita työpaikkailmoituksia. Kirjoita hakemuskirje ja ansioluettelo (HUOM! Käytä hyväksi niitä mitä teit haastattelua varten, copy & paste).

2. Mitä teen seuraavaksi?

1) Etsi asunto (Google: Rent a flat + kaupungin nimi). Mitä siihen kuuluu (vesi, sähkö, kaasu, vakuutus)? Mikä on osoitteesi?
2) Tee budjetti. Mitä muita kuluja sinulla on kuin asuminen? Esim. auto, polttoaine, bussi/juna/metroliput, vakuutukset, ruoka, vaatteet, puhelin+netti, pesuaineet, harrastukset ym.) Muista budjettia tehdessäsi vähentää palkastasi tulovero (income tax)!
3) Etsi esim. Google Mapsistä reitti työpaikalta kotiin. Miten sinne kuljetaan? Paljonko on bussikortti tms.? Kauanko matka kestää päivässä?
4) Katso netistä immigration rules tai entry requirements.

Infinitiivi: Opettele milloin to-partikkelia ei tule ja laita se muissa tapauksissa. Jos et muista/tiedä, todennäköisempää on että to on oikein.

Infinitiiviä käytetään ilman to-partikkelia seuraavissa tapauksissa:

Modaalisen apuverbin jälkeen
We can do this!
You cannot have been there.
Aistimusta ilmaisevan verbin jälkeen
I felt the earth move.
We saw the plane crash.
Näiden verbien jälkeen voi tulla myös -ing-muoto ilman suurta merkityseroa.
Passiivissa näiden verbien kanssa tulee joko infinitiivi to-partikkelin kanssa tai -ing-muoto.
They were seen to leave/leaving the building.
Verbien let, make, have ja help jälkeen, kun niitä seuraa objekti + verbi
Let me go.
They made me swear I wouldn't tell anyone.
I'm going to have my neighbor fix it.
I was trying to help you understand the situation.
Kun make-verbi muutetaan passiiviin tai let-verbi vaihdetaan passiiviseen be allowed to -lausekkeeseen, käytetään to-partikkelia.

Joskus come-verbin jälkeen voi tulla myös -ing-muoto, varsinkin jos kyseessä on "urheilullinen" aktiviteetti, mutta infinitiivi on yleisempi.

1. Epäsuora kerronta ilmaisee usein jälkikäteen, mitä joku sanoi tai kysyi. Suorassa kerronnassa toistetaan puhujan sanat.

2. Suoraan kerrontaan verrattuna epäsuorassa kerronnassa yleensä muuttuvat

Kurssilla syvennät käsitystäsi kielitaidosta työelämätaitona ja sosiaalisena pääomana. Tutustut tekstilajeihin, joita opiskelijat kohtaavat mahdollisissa jatko-opinnoissa tai työelämässä. Pohdit jatko-opinto- tai urasuunnitelmia ja työntekoa myös kansainvälisessä kontekstissa ja harjoittelet mm. työpaikkahakemuksen tekemistä, työpaikkahaastattelua sekä englanninkielisessä maassa työskentelemistä. Perehdyt alustavasti myös talousasioihin, jotka liittyvät itsenäistyvän, työelämään astuvan nuoren elämänpiiriin, sekä laajempiin talouden ilmiöihin.

Compiling a CV

A curriculum vitae or CV usually contains about two pages. It includes a summary of your educational, professional and academic background as well as a list of your publications, presentations, awards, honours and other details. Your CV should be clear, short, complete and up-to-date. Use appropriate English.

What to include in your CV?

Personal details

Include your name, address, date of birth, mobile number, email, web page, LinkedIn profile and other relevant social media. It’s common to include a passport-sized photo in the top right-hand corner of the CV. Remember to highlight your skills that are relevant to the job you are applying for.

Education and qualifications

Include your secondary and upper secondary education, your school leaving certificates and matriculation examination results as well as your degree subject and university. Mention your grades or grade point averages unless they are poor.

Work experience

List your work experience starting with your newest one. Give a brief description of your duties. Use action words such as developed, planned and organised. Remember to mention if your job involved working in a team or with customers, or dealing with complaints. Don’t mention the routine, non-people tasks such as cleaning rooms. Describe what skills were needed in the job.

Interests and achievements

Keep this section short and to the point. As you grow older, your employment record will become longer and your interests won’t be that important anymore. Give emphasis to interests where you need people skills. Show that you are interested in a lot of things. Any interests relevant to the job are worth mentioning. Any evidence of leadership is also important to mention such as a captain or coach of a sports team, course representative, chair of a student society or scout leader.

Skills

The usual ones to mention are languages as well as a description of your command of that language (good conversational French, basic Spanish). Also list your computer skills e.g. good working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, plus basic web page design skills.

References

Normally two referees are sufficient: one academic (perhaps your tutor or a project supervisor) and one employer (perhaps your previous part-time or summer job).
