Compare the function of the sea from the past until nowadays. <br/> A group of children worked on this subject. They made a comparison between the Netherlands from the past and the Netherlands nowadays. The sea has a great impact of our country. <br/> <br/> In the past (1953) we had a big natural disaster. A large part of the Netherlands has been flooded. Since then we started to protect us better against the violence of the sea. There have been build a storm surge and the delta works. This are constructions in the water, they help us against the sea. <br/> <br/> In the past we had more water then nowadays in the Netherlands, a part of the 'Zuiderzee' has been drained, nowadays it is land. This process took over many and many years. <br/> <br/> The sea is important for us for trade. We have a very large harbour in Rotterdam.
