1. 'I don’t want these jeans.'
Madison told Taylor that she didn't want the jeans.
Madison sanoi Taylorille, ettei halunnut farkkuja.
(Preesensistä tulee imperfekti; these -> the)

2. 'We can catch our bus later.'
Nimra remarked that they could catch their bus later.
Nimra huomautti, että he voisivat mennä bussilla myöhemmin.
(Pronominimuutosten lisäksi can -> could)

3. 'I will be late for school.'
Emma complained that she would be late for school.
Emma valitti, että hän myöhästyisi koulusta.
(Futuurista tulee konditionaali)

4. 'You are being impossible!'
Nimra told Emma that she was being impossible.
Nimra sanoi Emmalle, että tämä oli mahdoton.
(Preesens -> imperfekti, huutomerkki muuttuu pisteeksi.)

5. 'You must hurry up, Madison!'
Taylor told Madison that she must hurry up / she had to hurry up.
Taylor sanoi Madisonilla, että hänen pitää/pitäisi pitää kiirettä.
(Epäsuorassa kerronnassa voi imperfektialkuisessakin virkkeessä käyttää preesensmuotoa must. Huutomerkki muuttuu pisteeksi.)

6. 'I can’t wait any longer.'
The girls’ dad told them that he couldn't wait any longer.
Tyttöjen isä sanoi keille, että hän ei voisi odottaa yhtään kauempaa.
(Preesens -> imperfekti)

7. 'It’s so cold out here, Dad!'
Madison complained to her dad that it was so cold out there.
Madison valitti isälleen, että ulkona oli niin kylmä.
(Preesens -> imperfekti; here -> there, huutomerkki muuttuu pisteeksi.)

8. 'I’ll buy you a new winter coat tomorrow.'
Dad promised to Madison that he'd buy her a new winter coat the next day / the following day.
Isä lupasi Madisonille, että hän ostaisi hänelle uuden tavitakin seuraavana päivänä.
(Futuuri -> konditionaali; tomorrow -> the next day / the following day)
