(yksikkö is, sääsubstantiivi, thunder)

(monikko are, families)

4. Talossamme ei ollut sähköä.
There was no electricity in our house / There wasn't any electricity in our house.
(yksikkö was, electricity)

5. On sattunut onnettomuus.
There has been an accident / There's been an accident.
(yksikkö has been, an accident)

6. Katolla oli ollut lapsia leikkimässä.
There had been children playing on the roof / There'd been kids playing on the roof.
(monikko had been, children)

7. Siellä ei ollut keitään aikuisia.
There were no adults / grown ups there / There weren't any adults / grown ups there.
(monikko were, adults - siellä (there) lauseen loppuun)

(Adjektiivi dark, ei mitään konkreettista)

6. There are mice there.
(Ensimmäinen there on muodollinen subjekti, lopussa there tarkoittaa ’siellä’. Verbi monikkoon. Jos verbi yksikössä There's mice there = amerikkalainen tapa/puhekieltä)

7. It is afternoon / It's afternoon.
(Vuorokauden aika.)

8. There are things (that/which) I don't want to talk about / I don't want to discuss.
(Jotakin on olemassa, monikko.)

(Mielipide, liittyy substantiiviin pleasure.)
