Lecture 3 Reasons for change

It has been said that in these turbulent times which are full of uncertainty, old ways of manage and lead are no more valid. The tools, methods and approaches from the 1980’s and 1990’s do no longer work. In this lecture, professor Alava argues, that leaders actually have two things to rely on: visionary thinking and leadership, and organizational learning. Actually, neither of them is a leadership tool as we traditionally would like leadership practices to be. They are approaches, almost philosophies.

Later in the lecture we hear more about the reasons for change in our conceptions of leadership. The lecturer also proposes that leadership should be detached from the person and linked to responsibility. We’ll see that this thinking leads to totally new definition of leadership.
