The children's choir Kolmekuutoset is a Jyväskylä City choir for the primary schools' music classes. It has been founded in 1980. The children in the choir are between 9 and 13 years of age and they are in the grades 3 to 6, hence the name of the choir "Kolmekuutoset", i.e. "Threesixes".
Music classes are specialized in the primary schools, where, instead of the general 1-2 hours per week, music is taught for four hours per week. The singers for he choir are selected from music classes by a singing test, and the choir practices after the usual school day once a week. On average there are about 60 members in the choir.
While singing in the Kolmekuutoset choir, the pupils of the music classes familiarize themselves with the practical aspects of choir practise. Later, they will have an opportunity to qualify for the youth choir Vox Aurea. The Vox Aurea Support is an association run by parents from both choirs. It supports the running of the choirs both ideologically and financially.
The performances of Kolmekuutoset focuses in the home country, and annual trips are made all over the Finland to participate, for instance, in national competitions. In 1988 the choir was awarded a medal in the Youth Arts Event, and in 1990 in the Grand Festival for Schools, the choir received a certificate of honor. The choir has also performed abroad in Sweden, Norway, greece and Hungary. In the trip on august 1998 Kolmekuutoset was taking part in the Choir fertival of Arezzo, Italy.
The Kolmekuutoset choir has made one own recording, Kolme Hyttystä, with Jyväskylä Symphony Orchertra. In 1997, 14 choirs from Jyväskylä made a recording called Jyväskylä laulaa, and Kolmekuutoset is singing on this recording. In the summer 1997 a children's movie, Hilarius-Hiiri and Loru-Liisa, was made, and some members from the Kolmekuutoset choir were acting and singing in it.
In the year 2001 Kolmekuutoset has celebrated its 20th birthday with a musical "Kirpun matka maailman ääriin" and by visiting the Ondrasek choir in Czech republic.
