Kaipola school is one of the village schools in Jämsä area. The school is situated near UPM-Kymmene paper mill where paper is exported all over the world. Many well-known newspapers are printed on the paper produced here.
We have 143 pupils in grades 1 - 6 (from 7 to 12 years of age). There are 6 class teachers and teachers in English and special education in our school.
According to our curriculum we provide comprehensive school education to the lower stage pupils in a positive and supportive learning athmosphere in collaboration with homes and the surrounding society.
The aim of our education is that our pupils acquire such basic knowledge, skills and learning habits which help them to become active lifelong learners. The pupils are encouraged to critical searching for information.
In addition to these goals we want to educate them to be co-operative, honest, responsible, tolerant and fit members of society with good social skills and self-esteem.
We value the use of various new teaching methods and learning opportunities: for example study visits, workshops and campschools. Understanding the importance of building up and maintaining international contacts in the future we have also started teaching English to the first and second graders.
The school has participated twice in a COMENIUS project. First project took place 1999-2001. Our partners were Horbury Primary School (England) and Elbetalschule (Germany). Teachers from our school visited England and Germany few times. Our colleagues abroad have visited Jämsä also.
Year 2007 we started our second Comenius schoolproject. Other partners are coming from Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Turkey, Italy and Spain. The title for our project is "One Sun - One Community".
We put emphasis on good manners, traffic education and entrepreunership as well as information technology and computer skills.
