Metal music

Our dearest hobby is our own band. There are six sixteen-year-old talented musicians in our group, five boys and a girl: Riina the girl (rhythm guitar, vocals), Saku (lead guitar, vocals), Joona (keyboard), Pentti (lead keyboard), Antti (bass) and Jari (drums). We play heavy metal from melodic power metal to brutal death metal. The band is quite new and it is called Torn Pages.

We haven't played any gigs yet but we'll have one soon. Most of the songs are covers but we also have a couple of our own songs. We train many times a week in a garage and in the winter it's darn cold, but we are kinda used to it. Usually our training sessions are really... hilarious. If we are not playing together we are propably just hanging around, watching movies, listening to good music and talking trash together. We're all kinda crazy (read unique!).

Although we're young, don't take us lightly, we're gonna conquer the world starting from YOUR country, dear reader. And remember: ”Komiat pärjää aina!” (=The handsome ones will always do it well!)

The band had a gig on Friday March 30, 2007 at a local restaurant Kultahippu (Gold nugget).

Sunna's hobbies

I live in Saariselkä. That´s about 30km to the south of Ivalo. Saariselkä is quite a small place so there isn´t much to do. All of my friends live in Ivalo, so I see them mostly at school.

Sometimes we may spend the weekend together or go to movies. Most of my free time I spend reading books, writing my own things or listening to music.
I also love movies and the Prison Break tv series.

Gymnastics

About a year ago I started a new hobby: general gymnastics. This kind of gymnastics is sometimes called group projects and it enables people of all ages and abilities to participate in performances. The groups are formed usually from 6 to more than 150 athletes.

The local sport club Lapin Sudet (the Wolves of Lapland) participated in one of the biggest sporting events in Finland. The event was called Sun Svoli. This gymnastics event took place in Tampere, in southern Finland in June 9 -11, 2006. There were fifteen choreographies and about 8 000 gymnasts, aged between 2 and 80, performing them. Our group took part in a choreograph meant for women. The festival had an unforgettable ending at Ratina stadium when all 8 000 gymnasts performed the ”Grande Finale”. There were lots of spectators every day and they created an enthusiastic atmosphere.

Kung-Fu

Hi, my name is Tanja and my hobby is Tai-Shin-Mun Kung-Fu (TSM). I have been training TSM for about 1 year. Now I have been on a break for about 2 years, because I hurt myself in summer 2006, when I was sparring with my friend. Then my right pectoral muscle broke down.
Back to Kung-Fu. Our club is the northernmost TSM club in Finland. Tai-Shin-Mun Kung-Fu or The School of The Great Sage, better known as monkey-style, is a skill of fighting, that has been developed by Chinese warriors in the course of milleniums. Because the style has its foundation in the battlefields, its characteristic features are reality, effectiveness and inventiveness. The versatile self-defense ability is completed with for example massage, meditation, cookery, breathing exercises and Chinese herb medicine. The style fits both men and women.

My freetime activity

Usually at weekends I go to the youth house called "Stönö" where I can play my favourite game billiard. At home I just chill out, listen to music, hang with friends and play computer games, for example Smackdown vs RAW 2006. I and my friends have our own wrestling organisation, IBW= Ivalo Backyard Wrestling.
